Large-format FDM for larger parts

We class FDM parts with a dimension above 36 cm as large-format. Send us the length, width and height, along with what the part needs to do, so we can discuss the printing options.

When a part counts as large-format

Our large-format FDM category starts above 36 cm (360 mm). This describes the size category; the full model still needs to be reviewed for the print.

The dimensions, orientation and chosen material determine the options. Confirm the size we can produce and whether the model can be printed in one piece before ordering.

Start with all three dimensions

The longest measurement alone does not tell us whether a part will fit. The other dimensions, printing direction, supports and chosen process all affect the space it needs.

Let us know if the model must face a particular way during printing or if a surface needs special attention. Mark any dimensions that cannot change.

Does it need to be one piece?

If the model is too large to print in one piece, we can discuss whether a revised design or separate sections would make sense. Any CAD work, joining, assembly or finishing needs to be agreed separately.

Joints can affect the appearance, fit and use of the part. Tell us whether visible joins are acceptable before the design is changed.

Think about handling and delivery

Larger parts can need different finishing, handling and delivery arrangements. Include any restrictions on where or how the finished part will be used.

Have the complete model reviewed before relying on a particular size limit or dispatch date.
